The Russian education system is constantly improving, using, among other things, the world’s best teaching practices, said Andreas Schleicher, head of the Education and Skills Department of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD).
He stated this during a meeting of the informal working group of the Education 2030 project within the framework of the VI International Conference on the Assessment of the Quality of Education “World educational systems against failures in the educational process.”
He recalled that in the spring of about one and a half billion young people around the world did not attend school and this led to certain consequences.
“The situation can be compensated by online education, but we realized during the pandemic that technology does not address many social factors. Education is a social phenomenon, it is a relationship between people, ”said Andreas Schleicher.
The head of the department clarified that time poses new challenges for teachers, they face a huge number of problems.
“A good teacher is not just someone who gives knowledge, but a mentor who helps to develop and evolve. The role of the teacher has become more important during the pandemic, ”emphasized Andreas Schleicher.
He noted that a combination of physical classroom presence and digital education is needed.
“Technology is always really good only when it is used correctly. The ability of teachers to become innovative education designers is something that has not yet been realized in many education systems. Russia is ahead of many countries, two thirds of your teachers have the necessary skills, ”said Andreas Schleicher.
