But: We cannot generally prevent wind turbines once the state authorities have decided

Almost 85 kilometers away from Carzig, Rainer Ebeling is standing in a field in front of wind turbines. The 58-year-old is the spokesman for the citizens’ initiative in Crussow, a district of Angermünde in the Uckermark. “” It really started with the protest when we saw the new regional plan with the wind suitability areas. Angermünde is already surrounded with wind turbines, on an area of 160 hectares within a radius of five kilometers. And now another 200 hectares are to be packed on top. “” Angermünde is a state-recognized resort: “” We are located on a national park and the biosphere reserve. And in between the wind turbines are slammed. “”

“” Ecologically, economically and socially nonsensical “”

According to figures from the market consulting firm Deutsche Windguard, Brandenburg has the most wind turbines in Germany after Lower Saxony. There are currently around 30,000 wind turbines in total, in Brandenburg there are around 3,800. Far too many, think the citizens’ groups. “” Wind turbines are ecologically, economically and socially nonsensical “, says Stefan Hellert. “” One cannot speak of “” green energy “” at all. “”

Wind power is unsteady because the wind does not always blow, and it is not “” base load capable “” – in other words: it cannot guarantee a permanent and reliable supply. “We finally have to look for effective alternatives – for example, generating energy from nuclear fusion.” “The expansion, however, is politically wanted. “” That’s why building is going on. “”

It is a critique of principle. The grand coalition of the CDU, CSU and SPD has set up a working group specifically for the acceptance of the energy transition – but so far without any result. The most controversial topic: How far away should wind turbines be from houses? So far, different requirements apply in the countries.

That is how big the distance between wind turbines and houses is right now

In Brandenburg there is a recommendation of 1,000 meters for residential development. In Bavaria, on the other hand, there is the so-called 10-H regulation – according to which the distance between a wind turbine and residential areas must be at least ten times as high as the system is. At a height of the system of 200 meters, for example, that would be 2 kilometers. The result: there are significantly fewer wind turbines in Bavaria. Union politicians are now calling for uniform national standards. The wind industry, however, fears that many areas for wind energy would then be lost.

The political goal is clear: away from fossil fuels such as coal, oil and gas, towards renewable energies from wind, sun and biomass. The last nuclear power plant is to be shut down by the end of 2022, and the federal government wants to gradually get out of coal-fired electricity by 2038, because this is harmful to the climate.

But the expensive major renovation has stalled. There are many protests and lawsuits on site. The electricity prices are high. The expansion of the power grid is delayed. The expansion of onshore wind power almost came to a standstill in the first half of the year. In addition, there were only 35 systems with an output of 231 megawatts.

The wind energy industry is in a mood of alarm

There is an alarm mood in the wind power lobby. There are too few approved areas and approval procedures often take years, complains the President of the German Wind Energy Association (BWE), Hermann Albers. According to an analysis by the specialist wind on land agency, complaints are currently being made to more than 300 wind turbines with an output of 1,000 megawatts. Main reason: nature and species protection.

The expansion targets for renewable energies appear to be in danger. By 2030, the share of green electricity is to increase to 65 percent – in the first half of the year, the contribution to covering electricity consumption was 44 percent of electricity consumption, according to figures from the BDEW energy association.123helpme.me The proportion of wind turbines on land was 19 percent.

From the point of view of the German Wind Energy Association (BWE), an annual expansion of 4,700 megawatts is necessary to achieve the goals. This will by no means succeed this year. The sheer number of wind turbines will not increase that much, they say. Because old systems are being replaced by new ones that are much more efficient.

Accusations by opponents of wind power are rejected

Vestas is also concerned. The world’s largest wind turbine manufacturer continues to rate the energy transition in Germany as positive, as Vestas manager Alex Robertson says. However, there is an “” acute need for action “” for the signed tenders. Robertson calls for concrete measures in planning law, approval procedures and species protection.

The wind power opponents’ allegations are rejected by the industry. “Modern high wind turbines generate far more and more even electricity on far less space, are quieter and also more species-appropriate than smaller wind turbines,” says Robertson. A BWE spokesman says that wind energy will be the largest electricity producer in Germany this year: “” Despite all prophecies of doom about system stability and the missing grids or the lack of base load capability of renewables, we don’t have blackouts every week, but one of the safest power grids in the world . “”

And sound measurements are “” conscientiously “” carried out for every wind turbine and are the basis for the approval of a turbine. The infrasound generated by wind turbines – opponents warn of health hazards – lies in the vicinity well below the limits of human perception: “” According to the current state of science, harmful effects are not to be expected. “”

Altmaier convenes crisis summit

Expansion goals, backlog of permits, health issues – these are all topics that should be on the table at a wind power crisis meeting. Federal Minister of Economics Peter Altmaier (CDU) has announced one of these. He plans to meet with representatives from the industry, countries and citizens’ groups in September to see how things can continue.

Frederik Bewer asks himself that too. The 43-year-old is sitting in Angermünde’s town hall, and the non-party lawyer has been mayor there for three years. The protests against wind turbines are also a big issue for him. He can’t do much. Although there is the B-Plan, the development plan, says Bewer. But: “” We cannot generally prevent wind turbines if the state authorities have decided. If areas are designated and the permit is available, then building can begin. It’s frustrating. The municipalities are a little helpless and have too little say. “” The people are actually not fundamentally against wind power: “” But it disturbs the way in which it is implemented. “”

Green electricity should be used where it is produced

Brandenburg’s Prime Minister Dietmar Woidke wants to change that. The SPD politician is facing a difficult state election on September 1st. Of course, the systems are a burden for citizens and municipalities, says Woidke. “” So they must be able to benefit from it, for example through income. It must not be that capital investors obtain a large return at the expense of the rural population. “”

Woidke says he has long been campaigning for the municipalities to have a greater say by deleting the wind power privilege in the building code. “You should be able to have a say in the decision-making process and obtain payments from the operator to the municipality with permits,” says Woidke. And green electricity should be used to a much greater extent where it is produced. There are very good approaches in Brandenburg, including for storing wind power.

What comes out of it is open. In any case, the citizens’ initiatives should continue to fight against new wind turbines. And Rainer Ebeling will continue to fill his “” headache calendar “”, which he has kept for years: “” The headaches have increased. If things continue like this with the wind turbines, we’re considering moving away from here. “”

There are always conflicts between taxi drivers and drivers of the US transport service provider Uber. A dispute at Frankfurt Airport apparently ended in a fight.

At Frankfurt Airport, two drivers who work for the Uber service reportedly hit a taxi driver. As the “” Frankfurter Rundschau “” reports, the victim suffered swelling and a cut on the face and had to be written off sick.

The act is said to have occurred on the evening of February 14th. Apparently a dispute broke out about the fact that the Uber drivers did not drive away, but should have waited in front of a hotel for new customers. As the “” FR “” reports, only taxis are allowed to do so, while the Uber vehicles would have to return to the company headquarters after a trip. When the taxi driver, who later became the victim, documented the wrongdoing of the two Uber drivers with his smartphone, he was said to have been threatened and then beaten by the two men. According to the police, all those involved should later have reported each other for assault, it said.

There was no concession for passenger transport

Last December, the US service Uber suffered a setback in the Frankfurt district court. Accordingly, the transport service provider lacked a concession to transport passengers. An injunction by Taxi Deutschland, an amalgamation of various German taxi companies, was granted.

Uber then announced that it would change its model for arranging trips in Germany.
